About The Boho

Welcome to our home, which we've nicknamed, "The Bohemian House", or, "The Boho". It's an historical heritage home in a cluster of identical homes built in 1892. This house has been many things to many people in its long life, and now it's our home, with enough room to share it with friends, family, and guests.

Just four blocks east of the iconic Empress Hotel, we're on a quiet bike route lined with giant trees. We're an easy walk to Victoria's Inner Harbour and downtown, the art gallery, Craigdarroch Castle, our Lieutenant Governor's amazing gardens, Cook Street Village, and Beacon Hill Park which borders the beaches along Dallas Road.

Entering The Boho isn't quite like going back in time, though you'll find much is still original: high ceilings, huge windows, oversized trims, large foyer and grand staircase. We've completed a careful and stylish restoration honouring the heritage charm and warm character, blending that worldly Victorian vibe with some modern flair, while updating the infrastructure, amenities, sound proofing and safety.

The Suites

Suite 1 is our largest, with a bay window facing the street. At over 300 square feet, with separate dressing room with wet bar and separate bathroom, this suite is fun and luxurious! Suite 2 is slightly smaller and also offers a dressing area with wet bar, and a gorgeous private bath with large walk-in shower. It looks out over the trees, where the sun comes up through a stained glass window. Suite 3 is our smallest space, with a small, private bathroom with shower.

Each room is finished and furnished with a collection of stuff we've found, or loved over the years. There's family treasures and auction antiques, eclectic artwork, carpets and throws from different corners of the globe, and each room even has a record player.

The Neighbourhood

Our 1892 home is in a short row of identical homes and our block features a pedestrian plaza prohibiting vehicle traffic, making the area very quiet and fresh, with no through traffic. Beside wide boulevards, under giant trees in our street is an official bike route, so the scene is interesting: cyclists, runners, dog walkers, ebikes, one-wheeled thingies, skateboards, scooters, roller skates, even cross-country skis on wheels. Our neighbourhood (sometimes called Cathderal Hill) is dotted with small older character apartment buildings amongst older homes. It's diverse, lovely and quiet.

Activities

You've probably heard about the Butchart Gardens and whale watching, and while they are super attractions, there's so much more to do close by. In season, take our putters to the Beacon Hill Park putting green. Book a cycle or walking tour of the city. Walk the Rockland neighbourhood to see grand old homes and wandering deer. Tour our local castle, or the art gallery, or browse the Lieutenant Governor's gardens. In winter, bundle up and head to Dallas Road to storm watch, or just stay in and play chess, read, or listen to records.

In the library you'll find brochures and current local events listings to help you plan an adventure, dinner out, or a night on the town.
